Everyone is prone to some challenges or difficulties in life; however, living with a disability can be even more challenging. When you have a disability on the NDIS, life’s challenges can have a substantial negative impact.
According to the World Health Organisation, after some time, these challenges will become barriers to life. Common factors that may affect life include disability, presence and limited functioning.
Common disabilities that can lead to barrier
The disability barriers will never become apparent, especially for those challenged. The professionals will help cater to the business needs and help you overcome the barriers.
Some of the common barriers that people with disability are likely to be prone to include the following:
Attitude
The foundational barriers are one of the most common challenges people are likely to face. Prejudice, stigma and stereotyping are some common attitude challenges businesses are likely to face. It will prevent disabled people from participating in daily activities.
Physical barriers
Apart from attitude barriers, most businesses are likely to face physical changes. Physical barriers may refer to some structure or object that will prevent people from getting access. Furthermore, it will also block the mobility of people.
For example, people who use wheelchairs need constant assistance from someone else and will need someone’s help to sit down or even stand up. Moreover, if they want to drink water, they will need someone else’s assistance to pick up the water bottle.
Communication
Communication is the key. Communication is one of the most common barriers people with disabilities are likely to face, and they often fail to communicate their needs. It will include disabilities that may affect their capability to hear, write, speak and even understand.
People who cannot be prone to communication problems. People with vision difficulties are likely prone to technical languages and may fail to understand or think properly. The visually impaired and people with other types of disabilities are also likely to be prone to these difficulties.
Social
People with disabilities are significantly less likely to socialize. Social barriers may include growing up or learning, which may also affect their capability to learn, get income or determine safety. Furthermore, people who have a disability may fail to complete their high school or even get a decent job.
These people are also likely to be prone to family violence. These barriers can, however, be problematic and create more obstacles, affecting their capacity to determine happiness, earning potential or even growth.
Policy
The lack of awareness may create substantial policy differences. People with disabilities may take part in certain activities and programs, however, there are certain facilities where they may not get this advantage. Not all government policies are inclusive for differently-abled people, and this will prevent them from enjoying the benefits.
